Point Nemo (2024)
Point Nemo is a particular place designated by calculating the farthest point from all land on the Pacific Ocean. Meaning "no one" in Latin, it was once a distant place of death that could never be returned, and it became the loneliest place where humans could be isolated. Although the place can now be searched everywhere due to the development of the Internet and communication, not many people still visit.
I and I share our own diaspora. I have fled to the country where I live to avoid a war's draft order. The two begin communication through accidental "connection" and have an incomplete conversation in English, not each other's mother tongue. For those who refuse to be mobilized for violence in the name of their country, those who cannot have a sense of belonging in their hometown, those who are reducing the scope of their lives day by day, and those who have nowhere to confess their misfortune as if they are coming in the future, this connection is suspicious and fragile, like a spam message, but intense.
This is a suspicious record of the 21st century, when people being driven to off-land Point Nemo still try to connect with the world online and a short anonymous message with errors replaces great consolation.
