<Jetspotting> is a new work that stems from my experience of frequently witnessing fighter jets flying over Dongtan, the city in South Korea where I used to live. Fighter jets are generally regarded as weapons of war, symbols of fear and destruction. However, after more than five years of seeing them regularly, they gradually became part of my everyday life—an unexpected source of delight, even a kind of special event in the sky.

After recently leaving Korea, I realized I could no longer see those jets. Strangely, I found myself missing them—the very embodiment of violence. I was struck by the oddity of this sentiment and wanted to explore these ambivalent emotions. In this work, I deconstruct the image of the fighter jet across multiple layers—its form, the sense of speed it evokes, the surreal fascination it inspires, and the visual afterimages it leaves behind. These elements come together in a series of drawings that reflect my attempt to understand and express this complex emotional landscape.

The title, “Jetspotting”, is borrowed from the film “Trainspotting”, which refers to the seemingly pointless act of noting down train departure times. It also alludes to the track marks on the arms of heroin addicts, resembling railway lines. Just as the film’s title evokes both a uniquely British subculture and the tragic unawareness of those caught in addiction, my title hints at the cultural backdrop of my neighborhood—where fighter jets appeared frequently—and metaphorically reflects my own contradictory feelings toward them.







"Trans-Vision 비전" is a travelling exhibition covering Korea and Japan, and the first exhibition was held in Seoul, Korea in April this year. At that time, one of the participating artists, orm, visited Korea from Japan with his work. The flight from Takamatsu to Seoul takes just under an hour, which is almost the same time it takes to travel domestically from Takamatsu to Tokyo, but in various situations he was naturally aware that he was crossing the country. There are, of course, various checkpoints in the process of leaving and entering a country, and the traveller is responsible for the subtle changes in sound and air along the way. And these make you feel the larger framework of a country that cannot be measured by time or distance. 

This exhibition "Trans-Vision 비전" will be held in Takamatsu, a regional city in Japan, and will feature six artists from East Asia, including Korea, Taiwan, China and Japan. What kind of works will emerge from the intersection of experiences and perspectives brought by artists from different backgrounds?



2025年6月20日(金)から7月13日 (日)まで、Syndicate にてグループ展「Trans-ヴィジョン비전」を開催します。「Trans-비전ヴィジョン」は、韓国と日本を跨ぐ巡回展であり、第一回目の展示は今年4月に韓国ソウルで開催されました。本展では、韓国、台湾、中国、日本という東アジア出身・在住である6組のアーティストが参加いたします。

初日6月20日は17時から20時までオープニングレセプションを開催。18時から19時までは、モデレーターにインディペンデント・キュレーター李静文を迎え、アーティストトークを行います。レセプションフードは、韓国ソウルより、感覚的な食体験を創出するHyunseo Kimによるプロジェクト Farm.Form が担当いたします。作家も在廊予定ですので皆様お誘い合わせの上、ぜひお越しくださいませ。以下、展覧会詳細となります。
